WHAT ARE BOTOX INJECTIONS?

BOTOX is a non-surgical treatment for mild to moderate wrinkles caused by muscle contraction using highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium Botulinum. The botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle to relax contractions, preventing wrinkles from forming and reducing existing wrinkles.

ARE BOTOXINJECTIONS SAFE?

BOTOXInjections is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.  Research studies on botulinum toxin provide evidence that providers know and trust.

WHAT ARE BOTOX INJECTIONS TREATMENTS?

BOTOXInjections treatment is a revolutionary approach to reversing the effects of facial wrinkles. Crow’s Feet, Worry Lines, and Laugh Lines can all be a thing of the past. Crow’s Feet, Worry Lines, and Laugh Lines are known as dynamic wrinkle lines, and all are treatable with the BOTOX®Injections procedure. Cosmetic denervation is the process of injectingBOTOX® into the tiny facial muscles that create wrinkles.

WHAT IS THE BOTOX INJECTIONS PROCEDURE?

BOTOX injections are performed without anesthesia because it is virtually painless. One feels a minimal sting at the time of injection.

BOTOX effects are not permanent and require repetition three to four times per year to retain the results. However, research has suggested that long-term use of BOTOX injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect.

Patients over the age of 65 may not experience as dramatic of results.

BOTOX is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot repair sagging skin caused by aging.

BOTOX INJECTIONS FAQ

BOTOX is a muscle relaxer that comes in the form of a purified protein and is traditionally injected into facial muscles, causing them to relax rather than contract. BOTOX has been on the market for decades, and we have been successfully treating patients with BOTOX for many years.

BOTOX is injected into muscles that tense up, and these contractions cause the lines, or wrinkles, on our faces. BOTOX blocks some of the transmitters in the muscles, preventing them from contracting and essentially forcing them to relax.

The forehead, eye areas, chin, and lip-lines are the most common facial areas treated with BOTOX for lines or wrinkles. We also use BOTOX in the muscles in the jaw to treat patients with TMJ or alleviate pain from grinding.

For Botox Training, You Must Provide Documentation That Shows You Are A Licensed Medical Practitioner. Specifically, Only Medical Practitioners Who Hold An MD, DO, DDS, DMD, NP, And Nurses Under The Supervision Of A Physician May Inject At A Botox Certification Program.

There’s no right or wrong age for BOTOX since everyone’s lines form differently. Usually, it depends on when the lines start to bother you.

We prefer to ask: Are my lines severe enough to be treated?

As times are changing, it’s not uncommon today for patients in their early 30s to start using BOTOX.

Genetic factors, collagen reduction, cellular changes, and damage from the sun and environment influence each of us differently, affecting the timing of the formation of our lines.

Absolutely. BOTOX is an FDA-approved treatment for reducing or reversing wrinkles. But if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases, we do not recommend receiving BOTOX treatments.

Our Board-Certified Nurse Practioner and Master Level Injector, Tonya C. Tuggle, has had more advanced training in injections than most Injectors. The face is where she spends much of her time every day. In addition to extensive education related to the face, Tonya’s daily in-office experience ensures her proficiency in facial injections and her first-hand knowledge of facial-muscle function.

The needle that is used to injectBOTOX is tiny, and its sting is minimal. The entire process is almost painless, so no anesthesia is needed, and our patients are usually awake during treatment.

It typically takes about two weeks to see the full results, but you may begin to see changes within the first few days. Every experience is different, and there are rare cases in which it takes up to 2 weeks to realize the complete effects of BOTOX.

The effects of BOTOX usually last 3-4 months, but results vary from patient to patient, so we will discuss your aesthetic goals when scheduling your next appointment. We typically recommend periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.

BOTOX typically takes 2 to 5 days to start working, with full slimming results seen in a few weeks. The treatment wears off after 3 to 4 months. To maintain a slimmer appearance, you will need to continue to get BOTOX injections three to four times per year.

There may be a slight dull irritation when chewing following the first few days after BOTOX injection into the Masseter muscles, but this should resolve within a week. Avoid lying down in the first four hours after the procedure and avoid massaging the Masseter muscles after treatment.

Like BOTOX, XEOMIN works by temporarily immobilizing the muscles that cause facial wrinkles to form, smoothing expression lines, so you look better refreshed. Additional similarities include: XEOMIN injections take about 15 minutes to perform. Full results are visible in about 7 days.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in April 2019 in Aesthetic Surgery Journal found that XEOMIN was just as effective in addressing forehead lines as BOTOX.

The exact number varies from patient to patient, depending on several factors. On average, it takes about 40 units of BOTOX for a single treatment for jaw reduction.

Yes, provided you wait at least four hours before lying down. BOTOX takes a few hours to settle into place, so lying down straight away could cause it to migrate to other muscles in your face and increase the risk of complications.

Botulinum toxin is used cosmetically to paralyze the facial muscles. BOTOX both contain botulinum toxin. In the jaw, we can use neurotoxins in the masseter muscle. This is one of many muscles that help us chew. You can feel the masseter muscle as a deep prominence along your jawline when you clench your teeth down.

Yes, carefully placed injections of BOTOX will relax the jaw muscle (the masseter muscle) to a degree. In many cases, there is a noticeable reduction in the size of the jaw area. Your jaw will appear smoother and less prominent. The angle of the jaw may appear altered. A sharp square jaw angle can be softened.

BOTOX injections for TMJ can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to complete. Most patients will begin to feel relief within 24 to 48 hours. Relief can continue to increase for up to one week.

Here are three techniques you can try:

  • Manual jaw-opening exercise: Repeat small mouth-opening and mouth-closing movements several times as a warm up.
  • Jaw joint stretch: This exercise helps stretch the muscles of the jaw and neck.
  • Smile stretch: This stretch helps eliminate stress in the facial muscles, upper and lower jaw, and neck.

Glabellar Lines usually require starting dose for a female is 20 units. Forehead Lines usually require an average of 20 units. Crow’s Feet or the Periorbital Area can average 20-24 units.

Individual results vary, but most people start to enjoy the benefits of treatment two to three days after the injections.

No bending, lifting, or lying down for 4 hours. No exercise for 24 hours. Do not touch your face or the areas where theBOTOX was injected for 4 hours.

Aside from using a slightly different form of Botulinum Toxin, XEOMIN sets itself apart from BOTOX by its price tag. XEOMIN is typically less expensive than either BOTOX, Dysport®, orXEOMIN, even though it creates similar results.

Both BOTOX andXEOMIN have the same common manageable side effects when it comes to safety. Experts conducted a series of research and clinical trials before coming to the market to rule out any harmful effects.

The Masseter Muscle is located close to the muscles that make you smile. The person injecting you must understand facial anatomy because injecting the wrong muscle, or if the BOTOX spreads to the smile muscle, you may not be able to smile for three to four months.

Treatment using BOTOX for Bruxism Treatment could cost anywhere from $500-$1,500 or more.

It depends upon the injection area. If BOTOX migrates to one or both specific areas, the injection can result in a droopy eyelid (called Ptosis). These two areas are the forehead and between the eyes.

Yes. However, BOTOX injections around the eyes can cause you to not close your eyes for several hours, which then causes eye dryness.

You should wait at least 24 hours after your BOTOX injections before any eyebrow waxing or other treatments.

Your body makes new neurotransmitters all the time, so the “blocking” effect of BOTOX gradually wears off as these chemicals start circulating in your body again. The muscles are no longer inhibited.

You will not experience any difference in day-to-day eating or chewing. However, if you eat a chewing intensive meal, you may feel slight muscle fatigue towards the end of the meal. This is temporary and typically occurs in about 30% of individuals after jaw BOTOX injections.

Small doses of BOTOX are injected into the lower jaw and down the side of the neck, along with the lateral neck muscles. As with all BOTOX® injections, it may take up to two weeks to see the final results. The effects can be expected to last three to four months.

BOTOX for TMJ is injected into the jaw muscles, forehead, and temple, depending on your symptoms. The injections will cause the jaw muscles to have a limited function, bringing pain relief and decreasing TMJ symptoms.

Tell your doctor about all your muscle or nerve conditions, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), Myasthenia Gravis, or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome. You may be at increased risk of severe side effects, including severe dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and respiratory compromise (difficulty breathing) if you have any of these conditions.

No. BOTOX works by targeting the underlying cause of dynamic wrinkles. Over time, these wrinkles become a permanent fixture of your appearance. The formula in both drugs contains a purified form of a neurotoxin known as Botulinum Toxin type A.

Common side effects include headaches, eyelid drooping, upper respiratory tract infection, and increased white blood cell count.

OnceBOTOX wears off, wrinkles begin to reappear again, but you do not look worse after the treatment wears off than your look before the treatment. However, since you have become used to smoother skin and a youthful appearance, it might come as a shock when theBOTOX wears off.

It doesn’t. Eventually, the action of the neurotoxin will wear off, and the nerves will again be able to send those signals to the muscles to start working or contracting. In general, BOTOX lasts 3-4 months.

If BOTOX hits a blood vessel, it will not cause any harm to the human body. You will develop swelling, pain, and bruising on the injected site due to a punctured vein. BOTOX is known as Botulinum Toxin, which is a toxin that is made up of protein.

Treating wrinkles with BOTOX also affects the brain, according to a recently published study by the University of Zurich. The team measured electric signals inside the brain before and after a BOTOX treatment. If we wrinkle our foreheads or raise our eyebrows, we stimulate the brain via the many facial nerves.

The frequency of injections shouldn’t occur any sooner than three months to prevent the development of resistance to BOTOX. You may be able to go for longer periods of time between BOTOX treatments if you receive BOTOX or regularly, possibly up to six months.

No. BOTOX does NOT cause weight gain.

Botulinum Toxin type A, the ingredient BOTOX, is a protein complex that can cause the immune system of some patients to respond by forming neutralizing antibodies that weaken the toxin’s effectiveness.

20 units ofBOTOX is the starting dose for a female for the Glabella area (or 11’s) or cover the starting dose for Crow’s Feet.

The average woman under the age of 65 will need 60-70 units ofBOTOX to treat the three main areas: 11’s, Upper Forehead Lines, and Crow’s Feet.

After theBOTOX procedure, patients are instructed not to lie down or touch the injection site areas for 4 hours after injection.  AfterBOTOX, keep the face clean and wash fash with antibacterial soap before bed. See the “Aftercare” section on this page for full details.

It is best to avoid the gym (where MRSA is rampant) for the day of theBOTOX injection.  Hiking, running, or working out at home is normally acceptable after 4 hours after receivingBOTOX. See the “Aftercare” section on this page for full details.

BOTOX appointments typically last 20-30 minutes.

There is no need to avoid making facial expressions after receivingBOTOX.

BOTOX is injected between and just above the central brow area to achieve a brow lift. To lift the tail of the eyebrow,BOTOX can be injected into the crow’s feet area.

BOTOX is injected into the masseter muscles (the jaw muscles) to weaken the contraction and prevent wear and tear on the TMJ joint. While night guards help protect teeth, they do not project the TMJ joint or prevent pain.  BOTOX for TMJ protects the TMJ joint and prevents the pain of the joint while also protecting teeth.

BOTOX is injected in a small dose in the muscles around the upper lip to relax the muscle.  The result is a subtle enhancement of the upper lip when talking and smiling.

BOTOX dose equalsBOTOX duration.  IfBOTOX didn’t last 3 months, the most likely cause is the dose was not high enough.  In the upper forehead, most women will need 20 units forBOTOX to last 3 months.  In the crow’s feet, most women will need 10-16 ofBOTOX near each eye for the dose to last 3 months.

There are two possible reasons whyBOTOX did not smooth 11’s.  The first is too low of a dose.  If the dose does not entirely prevent muscle contraction, the lines are still allowed to form.  The second is the wrinkles very deep.  In some cases,BOTOX is needed every three months for 18 months to smooth deep 11 lines.

Not really. BOTOX is the most effective solution for preventing forehead wrinkles.  Other solutions are CO2 laser resurfacing, a surgical brow lift, or filler.  The forehead is not a safe area for filler injections, as there is an increased risk of avascular necrosis and blindness.  Laser resurfacing and surgery will improve forehead lines for a time, but as the skin is allowed to fold with facial movement, the lines will soon return.

There Are Four Such Injectables On The Market: Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, And Now Jeuveau, And All Of These Use Botulinum Toxin To Smooth Out Wrinkles And Lessen The Signs Of Aging In The Same Way.

Tonya is amazing!! She made me feel so comfortable and really listened to my concerns about my skin. She really cares and knows what she is doing. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!! I was concerned my first appointment but I just had my third and I can say it’s so worth it!!! Botox has been an incredible experience and I’m so happy to have tried it, I’m so much happier with my appearance and it looks incredibly natural. I’ve included before and after photos, neither photo is filtered or edited, you can see how makeup would collect in my forehead, and how the after it’s smooth and looks so lovely. It doesn’t feel weird or like I can’t move my muscles at all, it feels super natural. One of my biggest concerns was that I wouldn’t be able to emote with Botox but that’s just not true at all. I feel so confident and that is thanks to Tonya!

BOTOXINJECTIONS PROCEDURE PREP

Read Up on BOTOX

Regardless of what procedure you’re having done, it would be best if you didn’t go into it without a wealth of knowledge about what it entails. That’s why, before you go in for your first BOTOX appointment, you need to read up on BOTOX.

While BOTOX is a primarily helpful substance, it’s not without its downsides. A variety of potential side effects accompany BOTOX, including pain, redness, drooping eyelids, and headaches.
By garnering information such as this, you can ensure that you’re sure about going through the procedure.

Schedule Your Appointment at an Appropriate Time

Getting BOTOX can sometimes be an anxiety-inducing and stressful experience.

Schedule your procedure on a fairly laid-back day that allows plenty of “downtime” both before it begins and after.
It’s a good idea for new patients to schedule their first appointments in the morning. By doing so, you don’t have to endure a long, potentially anxious wait.

Ask Your Doctor About Your Medications

The fact of the matter is that some medications don’t mix well with BOTOX. If you’re on medications, you need to discuss them with your doctor. In some cases, you’ll be advised to stay on them; in other cases, you’ll be advised to stop taking them for the time being.

Some medications don’t go well with BOTOX, including aspirin, ibuprofen, blood thinners, muscle relaxers, and allergy meds. If you’re taking these medications, you’ll need to be off of them in the days leading up to and the days following your appointment. Again, please consult your doctor before this or any procedure.

BOTOX INJECTIONS AFTERCARE

The goal of BOTOX Aftercare is to encourage optimal treatment results. It can also minimize the risk of bruising and spreading to other areas.

Generally, on the day you get BOTOX, it’s a good idea to:

  • Gently exercise your face
  • Relax for the rest of the day
  • Maintain a normal heart rate (no exercise)
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the affected area
  • Leave the treated area alone (no makeup, etcetera)

You can also follow the best practices for BOTOX aftercare below.

Return to your Normal Activities

BOTOX injections don’t require any recovery time. Therefore, you won’t have to take off work or school. You can resume your usual activities right after.

Wait 24 hours to Exercise

If exercise is part of your daily routine, wait at least 24 hours to work out. Your doctor might suggest waiting for several days.

Physical activity increases blood flow. This could potentially spread the toxin to unintended areas and reduce its effectiveness at the injection site. It also increases the risk of bruising.
Exercise also contracts your muscles, which may decrease the toxin’s effectiveness.

However, it’s safe to do facial exercises like:

  • Frowning
  • Smiling
  • Raising your eyebrows

These movements can help the effects ofBOTOX show up sooner.

Go Makeup-Free

If you received a BOTOX injection in your face, take a break from makeup for 24 hours. Applying makeup will rub the skin, potentially dispersing the toxin.

Sit Up

Sit up for the first 4 hours after getting BOTOX. Bending or lying down might spread the toxin and promote bruising.

Ask your Doctor about Medications

Some medications might increase your risk of bruising. Be sure to ask your doctor when it’s safe to start retaking them.
