A Face Lift (Facelift), or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURINGFACE LIFT SURGERY (FACELIFT)

We performFace Lift (Facelift) in our office under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation as outpatient surgeries. We provide pre-medication to ensure you’re relaxed, and we don’t generally administer anesthesia but are happy to upon request.

A facelift surgery lasts 2-3 hours, depending on what other cosmetic procedures are being done in conjunction with it. Many of our patients choose to have a neck lift, eyelid surgery, forehead lift, and/or chin augmentation simultaneously as their facelift for a complete rejuvenation of their face.

Dr. Tuggle begins the procedure by making an incision inside the hairline at the temple. He continues around the earlobe and behind the ear, removing excess skin and tightening sagging muscles. If necessary, he removes fatty deposits beneath the chin and neck before closing the incision with small sutures.

Face Lift (Facelift) are ideal for those with moderate to severe facial sagging and wrinkles around the cheeks and jawline.

Don’t be alarmed if your skin around the ear and chin are numb for a few weeks after surgery. Numbness is normal. Discoloration and even loss of function or sensation that lasts a few months are also common. The good news is these side effects are temporary.

Since the healing process is gradual, it’s most likely you won’t see final results for up to 6 months. OneFace Lift (Facelift) surgery is usually plenty to achieve your desired outcome.

Long-term or permanent complications, while rare, can cause significant changes in appearance. The risks include Hematoma. A blood (hematoma) collection under the skin that causes swelling and pressure is the most common complication ofFace Lift Surgery (Facelift).

In general, you should expect to look ten years younger and see dramatic but natural-looking, anti-aging of the face and neck.Face Lift Surgery (Facelift) doesn’t stop the aging process, but results are permanent. Ten years down the line, you can still look a decade younger.

In general, you can expect to make a full recovery from your procedure in about two to three weeks. A traditional face and neck lift addresses a larger area and a greater degree of skin laxity than other procedures so that recovery will take longer than more minimally invasive procedures.

A mini neck lift is a surgical procedure that tightens and removes sagging skin in the neck and under the chin. The goal is to reposition the soft tissues in the neck, redefine the jawline, and create a smoother contour and a more youthful appearance.

In general, a neck lift cost is between $4,000 and $15,000. Since your lift will improve your appearance for a long time, this cosmetic procedure is a very cost-effective way to change your body.

A Facelift focuses on improving the cheeks, lower face (marionette lines), jowls, and jawline to reduce wrinkles and correct sagging skin in the area. A neck lift procedures correct the area below the chin and correct “turkey neck” (draping skin on the front of the throat)

In the early days of recovery, scarring after a neck lift will be noticeable, though they can be easily hidden. It would help if you gave yourself adequate time to heal during the first two weeks after surgery.

While recovery is unique for each individual, it is generally recommended that showering be avoided for 48 hours after plastic surgery. 48 hours allows your incisions time to begin the healing process and helps prevent premature scab removal.

Pre and Post-Operative Instructions for Your Surgery

Would you please read these instructions before and after your surgery? Carefully following these guidelines will help you obtain the best possible result. Take this information with you on the day of surgery to begin following the instructions that day. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact our office. We want you to have a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Preparing for Surgery

Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications), Vitamin E, herbal supplements, or medicines containing these compounds and alcohol for two weeks before surgery. Acetaminophen (Tylenol or generic equivalent) and a daily multivitamin are OK.
Refrain from smoking two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. Nicotine and tobacco smoke delay healing and can result in scarring.
Avoid sun damage two weeks before surgery. We recommend wearing an SPF 30 or higher.
Your prescriptions for after surgery (typically an antibiotic and pain med) will be given to you the day of surgery.
Do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight the night before your surgery.
Would you please arrange for someone to take you home from our surgery center? You will not be allowed to drive or leave alone. Arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery
Make arrangements to stay in the Albuquerque City area on the night of your surgery if you live more than an hour’s drive away.

On the day before Surgery

On the day before surgery, you will receive a phone call informing you of the exact time to report to our surgery center.

Day of Surgery

Do not eat or drink anything, including water, the morning of surgery. Essential meds may be taken with a sip of water 1 hour before the surgery appointment.
Wear loose-fitting clothes. Short-Sleeved Shirt is required.
Leave all valuables at home; do not wear jewelry.
Do not wear any facial or eye make-up. Avoid nail polish.
You may wear glasses but do not wear contact lenses.
If you wear dentures, keep them in.
Bring your ID and insurance card with you.

Post-Operative Care

Keep your head elevated to minimize swelling. A recliner works well, or adding an extra pillow to your bed is adequate.
You may wash your face. You may shower and wash your hair.
Wash incisions with Tear-Free Baby Shampoo and apply a light coat of vaseline.
You may wear contact lenses two to three weeks after surgery.
Avoid extreme physical activity, including athletic activities and intercourse. You may resume light walking three days after surgery. Aerobic exercise, weight training, heavy lifting, and straining may gradually resume three weeks after surgery.
Absolutely avoid sun exposure, sun lamps, or tanning beds for six weeks after surgery. Heat may cause your face to swell. We recommend wearing an SPF 30 or higher.
Don’t be concerned if the eyes show some swelling – this usually resolves within two weeks. In certain patients, it may require six months for all swelling to subside completely.
Take only medications prescribed by your doctor.
Makeup may be used 7-10 days after surgery.
