WHAT IS FACELIFT SURGERY | RHYTIDECTOMY | NECK LIFT SURGERY?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck.

Have you noticed that your facial skin has begun to sag? Has it started to fold around your neck, chin, and jawline? When your smooth, round, young face begins to lose its facial contours due to age and/or sun exposure, a facelift is a simple procedure that will not only restore your youthful appearance but enhance your facial contours and profile as well.

WHAT IS FACELIFT SURGERY?

We use facelifts, also known as a Rhytidectomy, to remove sagging skin, minimize wrinkles, and tighten facial and neck muscles to restore a younger, more vigorous look. A consultation with Dr. Tuggle to discuss your concerns and needs would design a unique and customized treatment plan.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING FACELIFT SURGERY

We perform facelifts in our office under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation as outpatient surgeries. We provide pre-medication to ensure you’re relaxed, and we don’t generally administer anesthesia but are happy to upon request.

A facelift surgery lasts 2-3 hours, depending on what other cosmetic procedures are being done in conjunction with it. Many of our patients choose to have a neck lift, eyelid surgeryforehead lift, and/or chin augmentation simultaneously as their facelift for a complete rejuvenation of their face.

Dr. Tuggle begins the procedure by making an incision inside the hairline at the temple. He continues around the earlobe and behind the ear, removing excess skin and tightening sagging muscles. If necessary, he removes fatty deposits beneath the chin and neck before closing the incision with small sutures.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FACELIFT SURGERY?

Facelifts are ideal for those with moderate to severe facial sagging and wrinkles around the cheeks and jawline.

FACELIFT SURGERY AFTERCARE

Don’t be alarmed if your skin around the ear and chin are numb for a few weeks after surgery. Numbness is normal. Discoloration and even loss of function or sensation that lasts a few months is also common. The good news is these side effects are temporary.

Since the healing process is gradual, it’s most likely you won’t see final results for up to 6 months. One facelift surgery is usually plenty to achieve your desired outcome.

NECK LIFT SURGERY

It is prevalent for both men and women to experience a softening in the muscles, soft tissue, and skin around their face and neck as they age. Our necks naturally begin to sag as supportive tissues deteriorate.

At Sandia Oral Surgery, we offer a tangible solution. We specialize in performing neck lifts in which we rejuvenate your skin, causing it to tightly envelop your neck and form a defined jawline and a sharp angle at the center of your throat.

WHAT IS NECK LIFT SURGERY?

Direct and comprehensive, the neck lift is a procedure that eliminates saggy skin along your lower face, neck, and jawline with under-skin, invisible sutures.

Dr. Tuggle places suture suspensions under the jawline, and our midline sutures correct neckbands. We use an advanced technique that secures the muscles properly, dramatically improving the jawline and neck angle.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A NECK LIFT SURGERY?

If you have acquired a lax neck where the skin no longer holds tightly, you may be an excellent candidate. We have found that those looking for facelifts are also the best candidates for neck lifts, and so offer neck lifts either as an individual procedure or along with a facelift. But while age affects the entire face, it is the neck that often shows it first. When that happens, only a neck lift is needed.

YOU MAY BE A CANDIDATE FOR A NECK LIFT SURGERYIF YOU HAVE:

  • Loose and sagging neck skin
  • Turkey neck banding
  • A double or triple chin
  • Loss of jaw definition
  • Loss of sharp neck angle

HOW LONG DOES A NECK LIFT SURGERY LAST?

Neck lifts can last up to 15 years. The fuller the neck lift, the longer it will last, so mini neck lifts tend to last for 2-5 years. For the best guarantee of a long-lasting neck lift, be sure to have the procedure done by an experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeon like Dr. Tuggle. His necks lifts are known for their longevity, as he makes sure to tighten the skin and remove all unwanted fatty deposits and the plication of the platysmal muscle.

NECK REJUVENATION OPTIONS

Various factors, such as age, anatomy, and cosmetic goals, can affect the approach and methods we use to contour your neck. During the consultation, Dr. Tuggle presents the treatments options, which include liposuction and BOTOX.

We use facelifts, also known as rhytidectomies, to remove sagging skin, minimize wrinkles, and tighten facial and neck muscles to restore a younger, more vigorous look. A consultation with Dr. Tuggle to discuss your concerns and needs would design a unique customized treatment plan.

A facelift surgery lasts 2-3 hours, depending on what other cosmetic procedures are being done in conjunction with it.

Many of our patients choose to have a neck lift, eyelid surgery, forehead lift, and/or chin augmentation simultaneously as their facelift for total rejuvenation of their face. Dr. Tuggle begins the procedure by making an incision inside the hairline at the temple. He continues around the earlobe and behind the ear, removing excess skin and tightening sagging muscles. If necessary, he removes fatty deposits beneath the chin and neck before closing the incision with small sutures.

Facelifts are ideal for those with moderate to severe facial sagging and wrinkles around the cheeks and jawline.

You may experience some temporary discomfort, particularly around incisions, but prescription medication can relieve this.

Normal activities, including work, can usually be resumed within 2 weeks.

A facelift usually lasts 7 to 10 years. Some patients decide to have the procedure repeated down the road, while others do not need another procedure.

Long-term or permanent complications, while rare, can cause significant changes in appearance. The risks include Hematoma. A blood (hematoma) collection under the skin that causes swelling and pressure is the most common complication of face-lift surgery.

In general, you should expect to look ten years younger and see dramatic but natural-looking, anti-aging of the face and neck. Facelifts don’t stop the aging process, but results are permanent. Ten years down the line, you can still look a decade younger.

In general, you can expect to make a full recovery from your procedure in about two to three weeks. A traditional face and neck lift addresses a larger area and a greater degree of skin laxity than other procedures so that recovery will take longer than more minimally invasive procedures.

During this phase of the facelift recovery, you will have some discomfort but should not feel significant pain. The pain medication you take should keep you comfortable, but swelling and bruising is normal. This is part of the healing process and is expected during facelift recovery.

In most cases, a facelift works best for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s when signs of aging become prevalent. Deep lines, wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin result from the aging process and can be best corrected through surgical techniques rather than non-surgical ones.

If a facelift is poorly done: Bald spots in the temple, pulled ear lobes, visible scars that are placed in front rather than inside the ear, wide, cross-hatched appearing scars, and stretched lips are a few other telltale signs of an ‘old’ facelift. All these unsightly changes have been resolved with modern-day facelifts.

A thread facelift — also known as the “lunchtime lift” or “lunchtime facelift” — is a faster, less costly, minimally invasive version of the traditional facelift. In a conventional facelift, loose facial skin is surgically removed.

Patients who have undergone a facelift rate themselves as looking an average of 12 years younger after surgery, according to a study in the February issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

While the recovery timeline can vary from patient to patient, most people can generally resume front or side-sleeping after 2 – 4 weeks.

You must wear the chin strap continuously for the first two weeks after surgery except while eating and showering/cleaning incisions. The strap helps fight the forces of gravity immediately after surgery and helps improve any swelling.

The average cost of a facelift is $8,005, according to 2020 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This average cost is only part of the total price – it does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities, or other related expenses.

The deep plane facelift is generally considered the most comprehensive and long-lasting type of facelift. This facelift involves the layer of muscles under your facial skin. These muscles are responsible for much of the drooping or sagging you may experience in your face as you age.

The Smart Lift is a non-invasive, non-surgical facelift and neck lift that removes 7 years off your appearance for 7 years. Dermacare’s Smart Lift treatment consists of Lipodissolve, PCDC: Phosphatidylcholine (PC), and Deoxycholate (DC). Our body’s cells contain 60-70% PC.

The two-stitch mini Facelift is an advanced version of thread lifts. The two-stitch is a great procedure for patients who want a subtle result and are unprepared for a complete facelift. It is performed under local anesthesia, takes one and a half hours to perform, and patients can return to work after 14 days.

You can remove wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and other undesirable features with a facelift. The process can be successful in helping you regain the appearance of your younger years.

FAQ

Direct and comprehensive, the neck lift is a procedure that eliminates saggy skin along your lower face, neck, and jawline with under-skin, invisible sutures.

You may be an excellent candidate if you have acquired a lax neck where the skin no longer holds tightly. We have found that those looking for facelifts are also the best candidates for neck lifts, and so offer neck lifts either as an individual procedure or along with a facelift. But while age affects the entire face, it is the neck that often shows it first. And when that happens, only a neck lift is needed.

Expect your neck to feel tight for a few weeks, and know that bruising and swelling are normal. These effects should subside gradually, with visible bruising typically gone after the first week and that “tight” feeling remaining for up to several months.

You can expect your neck lift to last between 10 and 15 years if you remain in good health. If you opt for this procedure in your early 40s to address problems with the muscle structure in your neck, results will last a lot longer than if you are in your 60s and addressing loose, sagging skin.

A Neck Lift:

  • Removes and tightens sagging skin.
  • Reduces the droop of the cheeks around the jaw line
  • Lifts the corners of the mouth
  • Reduces the creases between the cheeks and the lips
  • Bleeding under the skin (hematoma)
  • Reaction to anesthetic
  • Thick scarring
  • Blood clots
  • Infection
  • Nerve injury
  • Skin loss
  • Open wounds

You can expect minimal scarring from a neck lift, and the created scars should be discreetly concealed. People are usually pleased after having a neck lift.

You must wear the chin strap continuously for the first two weeks after surgery except while eating and showering/cleaning incisions. The strap helps fight the forces of gravity immediately after surgery and helps improve any swelling.

What Is the Right Age for Neck Lifts? Most people who have a neck lift are over 40 and under 60, but this is a general average. Ultimately, the right age is whenever you feel that you need it done, and Dr. Derrick agrees that it can help you and is right for you.

A traditional neck lift incision often begins in the hairline at the level of the sideburn, continues down and around the ear, and ends in the posterior hair. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the jowls and neck. The tissue underlying the neck skin is repositioned, and commonly the platysma muscle is tightened.

A mini neck lift is a surgical procedure that tightens and removes sagging skin in the neck and under the chin. The goal is to reposition the soft tissues in the neck, redefine the jawline, and create a smoother contour and a more youthful appearance.

In general, a neck lift cost is between $4,000 and $15,000. Since your lift will improve your appearance for a long time, this cosmetic procedure is a very cost-effective way to change your body.

A facelift focuses on improving the cheeks, lower face (marionette lines), jowls, and jawline to reduce wrinkles and correct sagging skin in the area. A neck lift procedures correct the area below the chin and correct “turkey neck” (draping skin on the front of the throat)

In the early days of recovery, scarring after a neck lift will be noticeable, though they can be easily hidden. It would help if you gave yourself adequate time to heal during the first two weeks after surgery.

In general, good candidates for a neck lift include Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that impair healing; Nonsmokers; Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic expectations.

While recovery is unique for each individual, it is generally recommended that showering be avoided for 48 hours after plastic surgery. 48 hours allows your incisions time to begin the healing process and helps prevent premature scab removal.

5 star review  Tonya is amazing!! She made me feel so comfortable and really listened to my concerns about my skin. She really cares and knows what she is doing. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!! I was concerned my first appointment but I just had my third and I can say it’s so worth it!!! Botox has been an incredible experience and I’m so happy to have tried it, I’m so much happier with my appearance and it looks incredibly natural. I’ve included before and after photos, neither photo is filtered or edited, you can see how makeup would collect in my forehead, and how the after it’s smooth and looks so lovely. It doesn’t feel weird or like I can’t move my muscles at all, it feels super natural. One of my biggest concerns was that I wouldn’t be able to emote with Botox but that’s just not true at all. I feel so confident and that is thanks to Tonya!
