  • Until sensitivity has completely subsided, avoid:
    • Scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic, and alpha-hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, rough cloths, Clarisonic brushes, aggressive scrubbing
    • Boiling or ice water – wash with cool to lukewarm water
    • Shaving
    • Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
    • Activities that cause excessive perspiration—Stay cool to avoid hyperpigmentation
  • Your skin may appear red and swollen and have a mild sunburn sensation. This skin reaction is a normal result of treatment. The redness and swelling can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Using an ice pack for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.
  • Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing result. Post-treatment discomfort is typically minimal. If the area is very uncomfortable, you may use oral pain relievers such as Extra Strength Tylenol or Advil.
  • Freckles and sunspots may initially turn slightly darker before flaking off within 7-14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction.
  • There may be redness and slight swelling around the treated vessels. The blood vessels are often lighter in appearance and look somewhat smudgy or less defined.
  • You may apply makeup immediately after the treatment as long as the treatment has not compromised skin integrity. Use sparingly.
  • With crusting of your skin in the treatment area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Avoid picking at these areas, as this may cause infection or scarring.
  • If broken skin or blisters appear, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact the office immediately. Keep the affected area moist. Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Avoid any sun exposure or tanning booth on the treated area for at least 7 – 14 days after each procedure. Your treated skin is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Cover the area and use a sunblock with a protection factor of 30+, reapplying every 2 hours. We have seen delayed blistering not directly related to sun exposure up to 72 hours post-treatment.
  • During phototherapy treatments, avoid sun exposure and use sunblock daily.
  • Check with your physician before discontinuing the use of prescription medication.
  • No facial waxing or injections for 2 weeks post-treatment.
