BOTOX VS XEOMIN: WHICH IS #1 BEST FOR YOU?

Cosmetic Medical Spas have popularized the use of Wrinkle Relaxation Injectables for promoting smoother, younger-looking skin. Botox and Xeomin are the two most commonly used wrinkle relaxation injectable treatments to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox and Xeomin are both made from the botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin, produced by a bacterial species called Clostridium botulinum.

This neurotoxin creates wrinkle reduction by blocking neuromuscular signals, which relax targeted muscles at the injection site. Although both injectables contain Clostridium botulinum as their active ingredient, there are some differences in how each injectable is used and formulated.

1. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: ARE THEY BOTH WRINKLE RELAXATION INJECTION TREATMENTS?

Yes. Wrinkle Relaxation Injection Treatments are injections of neurotoxins (nerve poisons) designed to reduce specific muscles’ ability to contract and relax wrinkles in the skin above those muscles. We widely use wrinkle Relaxation Injections on the face to reduce dynamic lines and wrinkles on the forehead or around the eyes.

There Are Four FDA-Approved Wrinkle Relaxation Injectables:

These Use Clostridium botulinum toxin to smooth out wrinkles by relaxing the injected muscular areas. Sandia Skin + Face specializes in using BOTOX and XEOMIN.

2. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: WHAT ARE THE COMMONALITIES AND DIFFERENCES?

When analyzing Botox vs. Xeomin, both come from the botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin, so there are many things both have in common. The key differences are around the specific formation. Xeomin is called a “Naked” form of Botulinum Toxin Type A. Botox has some added proteins to its recipe. Some data suggest some individuals might develop an antibody reaction after many repeated treatments of Botox, whereas they might be less likely to do so with Xeomin.

3. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: IS BOTOX BETTER THAN XEOMIN FOR WRINKLES?

Both Botox and Xeomin are highly effective treatments for cosmetic wrinkle relaxation. Both are more convenient and less costly treatments when compared to plastic surgery.

In a double-blind study, Xeomin worked faster and lasted longer than Botox. The study followed 180 people over six months and found that more women experienced better effects than men.

Dysport, another botulinum toxin injection, fared on a similar level with Botox compared to Xeomin.

In a second study, the Journal of Dermatology and Surgery conducted a clinical trial comparing the active ingredients of Xeomin and Botox. This trial included 250 women who received 20 units of Xeomin or 20 units of Botox. This study showed both toxin injections had similar effectiveness after four months.

As these wrinkle relaxation injections work in identical ways, administration by a licensed provider or medical doctor is a must. Have a chat with your provider to determine which of these two options is best suited for you.

8. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN HOW LONG A INJECTION LASTS?

There was one study that suggested that Xeomin injections might last up to two weeks longer than Botox. However, the study may have been paid for by the manufacturer of Xeomin. As the two biologicals come from the same bacterium, it is unlikely that there is any statistical difference over a large population.

Botox and Xeomin are both injected into a muscle or a gland. A healthcare provider will space both injectables once every 12 to 16 weeks.

Depending on the cosmetic treatment condition, both Botox and Xeomin injectables may be given to more than one area at a time.

It usually takes up to 7 days after a Botox or Xeomin injection before neck muscle spasm symptoms begin to improve.

The physical improvements of Botox and Xeomin injections are both temporary. Your symptoms may ultimately return within three months. In some patients, after repeated injections, it may take progressively less time before your physical symptoms return, mainly if your body develops antibodies to the botulinum toxin.

Botulinum toxin injections (Botox and Xeomin), should be given only by a trained medical professional, even when used for cosmetic purposes.

Follow your medical specialist’s instructions when receiving injections for eye muscle conditions. You may need to use eye drops, ointments, a unique contact lens, or another device to protect the surface of your eye.

Do not seek Botox or Xeomin injections from more than one medical professional at a time. If you switch healthcare providers, be sure to tell your new provider how long it has been since your last Botox or Xeomin injection.

Botox or Xeomin used more often than prescribed will not make it more effective and may result in serious side effects.

9. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: ARE THEY COVERED BY INSURANCE?

In general, whether you choose Botox vs Xeomin, the answer is “No.” But there are exceptions.

Generally, Medicare prescription drug plans (Part D) do not cover this drug. Contact your specific plan to verify coverage information. A limited set of drugs administered in a doctor’s office or hospital outpatient setting may be covered under Medical Insurance (Part B).

As Botox is an approved treatment for chronic migraines, some insurance companies will cover some — or all — of the costs, including both Medicare and Medicaid plans. Remember that insurance companies may usually only pay for Botox treatments if you have tried and failed two other treatments for your migraines. Work with your healthcare provider to submit a prior authorization form

It’s essential to work with your healthcare provider and insurance company to see what costs are covered and what out-of-pocket costs you will be required to pay.

10. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: WHAT’S A GOOD PRICE FOR BOTOX VS XEOMIN?

The cost of Botox vs. Xeomin Injectables can vary depending on your country, state, city, and Medical Spa.

According to some user reviews, the typical cost of a Botox treatment is $550, whereas the typical cost of a Xeomin treatment for $425. The price difference may reflect the fact that there are more treatment options for BOTOX than for XEOMIN. For example, a BOTOX treatment session for a hyperhidrosis treatment (excessive sweating) can cost approximately $1,000.

11. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: WHO SHOULD BE PERFORMING MY INJECTIONS?

12. BOTOX VS XEOMIN: HOW DO I CHOOSE A MEDICAL SPA FOR INJECTIONS?

When selecting a medical spa for your injectable treatment, give your decision-making process the same care you would for a surgical procedure.

Although a Wrinkle Relaxation treatment is non-surgical, choosing between Botox and Xeomin injectable treatments is still a medical procedure that requires knowledge, skill, and training to ensure safe and positive results. Choose a Master Level Injector with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and aesthetics. They must have substantial experience with Injectable Treatments.
